For several decades it has been a vacation home for families who seek an encounter with nature, or outdoors activities with no frills other than good food and different types of splendid scenery.<\/p>\n<p>Walking along the woodland trails, ice skating on the frozen Laguna Verde or practicing cross country skiing through beautiful forests, is a marvelous experience of being by yourself and in harmony with nature, far away from the pollution and stress of large cities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Refugio Berghoff \u00a0(Cerro Otto)<\/strong><br \/>\nDistance: 5 miles away from downtown.<\/p>\n<p>Otto Meiling, the pioneer of Argentine Andean mountain climbing in Argentina, built the Refugio Berghoff on Cerro Otto. It is one of seven mountain cabins (refugios) operated by the Club Andino, and was declared Municipal Heritage.<\/p>\n<p>The refugios provide a haven for hikers, climbers and cross-country skiers across the region and provide with delicious home made meals.\u00a0 The large fire inside welcomes visitors to this magic place, where you can admire the views of the surrounding landscape and learn about the history of the ski in Argentina, with pictures that show the first ski factory created by Otto Meiling, also founder of Club Andino Bariloche.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cross Country Ski Center (Cerro Otto)<\/strong><br \/>\nTour: 5 miles away from town.<\/p>\n<p>If you are driving your own car, check out the road conditions before heading out. Always carry chains or snow tires.<\/p>\n<p>To reach the Cross Country Ski Center, take the same road leading to Piedras Blancas at km 1 of Los Pioneros Ave, and drive for 7 km through a slightly winding mountain road along which you can admire thick lenga woods and beautiful views of Nahuel Huapi Lake.<br \/>\nBesides the typical mountain cabin (Refugio Berghoff), there are more than 2500 acres of groomed runs for skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels.<\/p>\n<p>Activities: Cross Country Ski School, snowshoeing, sled trips and snowmobiles.<br \/>\nInternational Biathlon Competitions and the Argentine Cross Country Skiing Championship are held every year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Piedras Blancas (Cerro Otto)<\/strong><br \/>\nTour: 3,73 miles away from town<\/p>\n<p>If you are driving your own car, check out the road conditions before heading out. In winter, always carry chains or snow tires.<\/p>\n<p>At km 1 of Los Pioneros Ave, you get to a slightly winding road that takes you up to Piedras Blancas winter sports parking lot, after driving for about 5 km.<\/p>\n<p>Piedras Blancas has characteristic features that distinguish it from other winter resorts.<br \/>\nIt is actually the birthplace of skiing in the region, imported by Otto Meiling, who built Refugio Berghoff on Cerro Otto.<\/p>\n<p>The beautiful snow clad mountains provide a haven for hikers, climbers and cross-country skiers. It also offers a variety of activities an area of 15 acres: guided walks through the woods, snowmobiles, cycling excursions on mountain bikes, rock climbing and a mountain refuge where delicious homemade cakes and hot chocolate is served\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cerro\u00a0Otto Cable Car<\/strong><br \/>\nDistance: 3,10 miles from \u201cEstaci\u00f3n Inferior\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are different ways to get to the Estacion inferior of the Cerro Otto Cable Car<\/p>\n<p>1\u00ba Taking De Los Pioneros Avenue and Sara Mar\u00eda Furman st., only 5 kilometers away from Bariloche, you get to the base of Cerro Otto. At this point there is a cable car that takes tourists to the revolving tearoom\/caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>2\u00ba There is also a free shuttle service available from town to the cable car station and back (bus stops at the corner of Mitre and Villegas and Pagano and San Martin streets, opposite the National Parks Superintendence building),departing at different times.<\/p>\n<p>3\u00ba By public bus (lines 50 and 51)<\/p>\n<p>You can drive to the top of Cerro Otto, taking the slightly winding road leading up from Km 1 of Avenida de los Pioneros to Piedras Blancas Winter Complex (5 km). A little farther up, you get to the Nordic Ski Center and Refugio Berghoff, a Municipal Historical Site. Drive another 3 km along a narrow mountain road to the upper parking area of the Cable Car Complex, from which you can get to the Revolving Tearoom\/Snack Bar.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to check out the road conditions before heading out. In winter season, always carry chains or snow tires.<\/p>\n<p>The cable car transports 500 people an hour and travels 4609 ft\u00a0to \u201cEstacion Superior\u201d, at 1.405 meters above sea level, at a regular speed of 3 meters\/second, both in descent and ascent. The tourist enjoys the trip completely protected against weather conditions, as the 42 compartments are closed and built on a steel frame, covered with polyester fiber and glazed with Plexiglas.<\/p>\n<p>The ticket includes the ride up in the cable car with panoramic windows, which takes 12 minutes to the top, and access to the complex where the snack bar rotates 360\u00ba every 20 minutes, providing magnificent views of the surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the surprising Art Gallery where replicas of Michelangelo\u2019s David, Piet\u00e0 and Moses, made by Pietro Bazzanti Art Gallery in Florence, Italy are exhibited.<\/p>\n<p>Nature lovers will find countless activities to make their day unique at the Cerro Otto Cable Car Tourist Complex. In winter there are 3 bobsled slopes of varying difficulty and guided snowshoeing tours.<\/p>\n<p>The latest novelty:<br \/>\n\u2022 The MOUNTAINTOP FUNICULAR made up of two units that carry 30 people each. It climbs 160 meters up the mountainside, saving time and allowing you to enjoy the bobsled or Otto Kart slopes more comfortably. During summer it\u2019s also used for carrying people up from the parking area.<br \/>\n\u2022 OTTO KART: Similar in design to European systems, this attraction consists of inflatable tubes specially designed for sliding down one of the traditional bobsled slopes. Guaranteed fun for everyone, as you speed safely down the mountain.
